Autonomous System Number ASN Extension for The Webalizer

Init Seven AG has developed an extension of The Webalizer called 'webalizer-asn', that supports AS number (Autonomous System Number) lookups to generate additional statistics based on the origin of the hosts that have visited a website.

The AS number identifies the AS (Autonomous System) a host is belonging to. An Autonomous System is a group of IP networks operated by one or more network operator/s which has a single and clearly defined external routing policy. (See RFC1930 for more information about AS numbers.)

It is useful for high-traffic sites and ISPs when they know from which networks the visitors are coming from. For example they can plan future peerings or other things based on this information.

DOWNLOAD/INSTALLATION:

Current version: 2.0 based on The Webalizer version 2.20-01.
Older versions can be found here. See CHANGES.ASN for a list of recent changes.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

This is BETA-software that has NOT been tested on many systems.
If you upgrade from a previous version, please read the 'UPGRADING' section in README.ASN.

Precompiled binaries for Debian GNU/Linux (etch):

1. Add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

  deb http://www.init7.net/webalizer_asn/download/debian/ etch main

2. Download and install the package with apt-get or aptitude:

  aptitude update  
  aptitude install webalizer-asn

Note: You have to download and install my PGP key, otherwise you will get warnings and you have to confirm to install the package from an untrusted source. You can easily install the key with the following commands:

  gpg --keyserver pgpkeys.mit.edu --recv-key 0B431D6B
  gpg -a --export 0B431D6B | apt-key add -
