Fiber7 Business Failover Service
With the Backup7 service, we offer our Fiber7 Business customers a failover solution to stay online via an alternative third‑party internet connection in the event of a failure of the primary connection. The service ensures that the customer’s allocated IPv4/IPv6 networks continue to be routed even if the primary line is down.
A permanent WireGuard tunnel is established over the secondary third‑party internet connection to maintain connectivity in case of a disruption. The switchover from primary to secondary connection occurs automatically and within seconds. The VRRP protocol (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) is used. The customer’s public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are routed to the alternative path and remain reachable, but at reduced speed.
The secondary internet connection required for the Backup7 service can be obtained from any provider. There are no restrictions on connection technology (e.g. HFC cable internet, DSL, 5G, satellite), depending on local circumstances and availability.
A dedicated backup router is provided as part of the service. Both the primary and secondary services are continuously monitored for functionality. The backup service is permanently active and will raise alerts if necessary. Fiber7 Business combined with Backup7 increases availability; the handover to the alternative connection and back is fully automatic within seconds and communicated to the customer via a status notification.
For the provisioning of the Backup7 service, two IPv4 addresses from the customer’s IP address range are required for the VRRP configuration. The standard MTU size is ensured.
