How can I improve my FRITZ!Box WLAN connection?

1 Positioning the router

Position your router in the centre of your flat or house.

Avoid the following sources of interference:
  • Closed cupboards or shelves
  • Microwaves
  • DECT telephones, baby monitors
  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Smart home hubs (Zigbee/Z-Wave)

2 Separate frequency bands

1. Login
  1. Open a web browser (Firefox, Safari, Chrome).
  2. Enter fritz.box
  3. Log in to the router with the password. The standard password can be found on the underside of the router.
2. Activate or update auto channel
  1. Click on "Wi-Fi".
  2. Click on "Wi-Fi Channel" in the "Wi-Fi" menu.
  3. Activate the option "Set Wi-Fi channel settings automatically (recommended)".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  5. Click the "Refresh Auto Channel" button.
3. Set up 5 GHz frequency band
  1. Click on (...) in the upper right corner and activate the "Advanced View".
  2. Click on "Wi-Fi".
  3. Click on "Wi-Fi Network" in the "Wi-Fi" menu.
  4. In the section "Wi-Fi Network Name", activate the option "Different names for the Wi-Fi networks on 2.4 and 5 GHz".
  5. In the section "Active Frequency Bands", activate the option "5 GHz frequency band active".
  6. Enter a different name in the "Name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)" input field so that you can distinguish the 5 GHz wireless network from the 2.4 GHz wireless network in the future.
  7. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  8. Please connect the devices, if compatible, to the 5 GHz WLAN. If the three steps do not bring the desired success, then please perform step four.
4. Load Factory Settings*
  1. Click on "System".
  2. Click on "Backup".
  3. Click on "Factory Settings".
  4. Click on "Load Factory Settings".
  5. Accept/OK.
  6. Now set up the Fritzbox according to Fiber7/Hybrid7 instructions. *Attention: When loading the factory settings, the current configuration will be deleted.

3 Extending the Wi-Fi

To extend the Wi-Fi signal, we recommend using a repeater.
