Fiber7 25Gbps: What needs to be taken into account during commissioning?

For a 25 Gbps connection, the customer must manually configure FEC (Forward Error Correction) and the port speed, depending on the hardware. We have set the infrastructure to “FEC auto”. The corresponding setting must be configured on the router’s WAN port. In principle, an uplink is always possible with the “FEC auto” configuration on our side; however, depending on the hardware, different modes may need to be tried.

Here are some guidelines based on experience, depending on the manufacturer:

Mikrotik

For Mikrotik routers, “fec91” must be configured on the WAN port to establish an uplink.

Ubiquiti

For routers such as the UDM Beast, the FEC setting “RS-FEC” must be selected. In addition, the speed must be manually configured to “25Gbps FDX”.

Other manufacturers

If the connection is not established stably, the FEC mode and port speed should be checked manually. The correct values may vary depending on the hardware: testing different FEC options (RS-FEC, fec91, fec74, disabled) will help narrow down the issue. Please feel free to share the correct configuration for your hardware type with us so that we can add it to our records.
